MED-MD BONNY, YVETTE –

The Haitian Consulate in Montreal chose Dr. Yvette Bonny, the great Haitian intelligentsia figure, under the label named ‘A Woman, A Work’. The idea was to salute her for her achievements and the outstanding services she rendered to the medical community as a whole and also for being the first doctor in Quebec achieving successful bone marrow transplant and many other similar achievements throughout Eastern Canada.
For years Dr. Yvette Bonny has been untiringly fighting against diseases that plague children, diseases like cancer, leukemia and anemia and she has, through her contributions, helped to reverse the psychological that Haitian adolescents face. She has become a living legend and has won numerous awards since 1977.
Dr. Yvette Bonny was born in Haiti in 1938 and immigrated to Quebec in 60s after she graduated from Faculty of Medicine of Haiti. From Ste Justine Hospital in Quebec she specialized in Pediatrics. In 1980 in Quebec, she achieved her first successful transplant of bone marrow.
Two of the most important awards she received in last 5 years include “Medal Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 2012” and “Member of the Order of Canada in 2008”. Prior to 2007, she received 17 distinguished awards for her excellence in medicine and unparalleled services to Canada.
